What is Hotel MS and how to get started (a first-day guide)

MundoSudoku started out as a site for solving sudokus. Over time it picked up more games, a leaderboard, a journal… and for a few months now it's had something nobody saw coming: a hotel. A place with rooms, people walking around, chat, a plaza with a basketball court, and even a beach where you can actually fish.
If you've never been in, this guide is for you. In five minutes you'll know what it is, how to get in, and what to do on day one so you're not just standing at the door.
A hotel inside the sudoku site
Hotel MS is an isometric world — that classic diagonal view — where you walk around as a full-body avatar. It's the same avatar you already have on MundoSudoku: if you've played before, your character shows up too, hairstyle, outfit and all.
It's not a separate game or a download: it opens in the same browser tab where you play sudoku, on your phone or your computer. And it uses your existing account, so there's no signing up again or remembering another password.
How to get in (and what happens in the first minute)
The gold 🏨 Hotel MS button is in the menu on every page. It takes you to the hotel page, and from there you sign in with your account; if you don't have one yet, it's created in under a minute and we never ask for a card or anything like that.
Once you're in, you land in the Plaza, the shared room everyone starts in. The first thing you'll see is other people walking around: everyone moves by tapping the floor, and your character walks there on its own, going around anything in the way. The second thing is your 200 MS Coins welcome bonus, already there without you having to do anything.
The Plaza and the padel courts
The Plaza is a real basketball court, complete with parquet flooring, court lines, two hoops, and stands with sofas and stools where you can sit down. There are streetlamps, a fountain, palm trees, and even an arcade machine.
Right next to it is a second plaza with two padel courts built to real proportions: glass walls you can see through to the other side, a center net, and four doors per court. To switch sides you have to walk out one door and in through the other, just like in real life.
Both are public and free: this is where you'll bump into people on day one.
Your room: the place that's yours
Every player can have their own rooms. In there, you're in charge: place furniture wherever you want, rotate it, pick it back up and place it again. Once you like how it looks, you can open it to the public so anyone browsing the room listings can drop in.
If you'd rather keep it quiet, set a password: only people who know it can get in. And if you do open it up, every visit and every like you get is counted.
Making friends without knowing their name
On the main site, adding someone meant typing their exact username. In the hotel you don't need to: tap their character, their profile opens, and you hit add. They get your request, and once they accept it, you show up connected.
The friends panel shows requests you've received at the top, the ones you're waiting on below, and lets you jump straight into whichever room each friend is in.
MS Coins and daily quests
MS Coins are the hotel's currency: they buy furniture, clothes, pets and pet food. You don't need to pay to get them — you earn them by playing:
- The 200 MS welcome bonus, the first time you log in.
- By playing and winning games on MundoSudoku.
- Through the hotel's daily quests, which you complete almost without trying: walking around, sitting down, chatting, visiting rooms.
- By fishing at the beach (which is a whole article on its own).
Buying coins is optional, and you don't need to for anything inside the hotel.
And when you're done with the hotel, head for the coast
The hotel doesn't end at the building. There's a beach with fourteen fishing spots and over fifty species, and a fishing village with its own estuary, bridge and lighthouse, where the tide genuinely rises and falls every hour: when it goes out, the sandbank dries up and shellfishing opens up.
There are also pets — a dog, a cat or a duck — that follow you around your room and that anyone passing through can pet.
Five things to do on day one
- Walk around the Plaza and sit down on one of the stand sofas: it counts toward a quest.
- Talk to someone. The chat is right there at the bottom and it doesn't bite.
- Spend your 200 MS on two or three pieces of furniture and set up your first room.
- Open it to the public and see how many people stop by.
- Head to the beach and cast a line at least once, just to see what bites.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hotel MS free?
Yes. Getting in and playing is free, and the MS Coins that run the hotel are earned by playing. Buying coins is optional and isn't needed for anything inside.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. It opens in your browser, just like the sudokus, and works on phone, tablet and computer. If you want it one tap away, you can install MundoSudoku as an app straight from the browser.
Do I need a new account?
No. It's the same free MundoSudoku account you use to play sudoku and keep your records. If you don't have one, it's created in a minute right from the hotel's entry screen.
