🔎 How to play Word Search (and find them faster)

Word Search is a classic pastime that trains visual attention and focus. Finding every word hidden inside the jumble of letters is deeply satisfying, and with a couple of tricks you'll do it much faster.
What is Word Search?
A grid full of letters hides a list of words. Each word is placed in a straight line — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal — and sometimes backward. The goal is to find them all.
How to play
- On one side you have the list of words you need to find.
- Click the first letter of a word and then the last one.
- If it's correct, it's marked in green and crossed off the list.
- You win by finding every word. Your time is tracked.
Tricks to spot words faster
The most common mistake is reading the whole grid row by row looking for a complete word. It's exhausting and slow. Instead, pick a word from the list and search only for its first letter, or better yet, its rarest letter (a J, a Z, a Q, an X). Since there are very few of those on the board, you spot it instantly and check from there whether the word runs in any direction.
Another technique is consciously scanning the diagonals: they're the hardest to spot and where the tricky words tend to hide. Work zone by zone so you never re-scan the same area twice.
Quick tips
- Start with words that have uncommon letters: they're almost found on their own.
- Once you spot a word, mark it right away so you don't go looking for it again.
- Mentally scan all eight possible directions from every suspicious letter.
Word Search is perfect for unwinding while training your attention. With the rare-letter trick, your time will drop noticeably.
