🃏 Memory Game: how to play and improve

The memory game, or matching-pairs game, is simple enough for a child to understand and addictive enough to hook anyone. Behind its simplicity lies great training for visual and spatial memory. Here's how to play and how to finish with fewer tries.
What does the memory game involve?
On the table there are several face-down cards arranged in identical pairs. The goal is to find every pair by flipping them two at a time and remembering where each picture was.
How to play step by step
- All the cards start face down. In our version there are 8 pairs (16 cards).
- Tap a card to flip it and then a second one.
- If both match, they stay face up. If not, they flip back over.
- Memorize the position of every picture you see so you can pair them up later.
- You win by uncovering every pair. The game tracks your tries and your time.
Tricks to match faster
The key is method, not luck. Instead of flipping cards at random, uncover the board in an orderly way (for example, left to right) during the first few turns: that way you build a mental map of where each picture is. Once you flip a card whose pair you've already seen, go straight for it.
Another technique is linking each picture to its position with a small story or association ("the apple is in the corner, next to the clock"). The brain remembers connections far better than loose facts.
Why it's good for your mind
- It trains working memory, the kind you use to hold information for a few seconds.
- It improves attention and sustained focus.
- It's suitable for all ages: ideal to play with kids or older adults.
Start with relaxed rounds focused on remembering positions, and you'll see your number of tries drop noticeably within just a few days.
🏆 Best-run ranking
Memory Game has its own global ranking: it saves your best run, with the fewest tries to find every pair. Go to Ranking, the 🕹️ 1 Player tab, choose "Memory Game" from the dropdown, and compare your score with other players, synced to your account. For your result to count you need a free account on MundoSudoku (just a username and password, no email required): you can play without one, but without logging in your score won't be saved to the ranking.
