🌀 How to play the Maze

By Miguel Arechaga

The Maze is pure sense of direction: a golden dot, a green goal, and a randomly generated path between them. The bigger the maze, the easier it is to go in circles without even noticing. Here's the method so you never get lost.

What is the Maze?

It's a game of skill and orientation where you move a dot from the top-left corner to the goal, located in the opposite corner, moving through the available corridors. Every round generates a different maze, and each level you clear is bigger than the last.

How to play step by step

  1. Press "Start" to generate the first maze.
  2. Move the golden dot with the arrow keys on a computer, or the on-screen buttons / by swiping your finger on mobile.
  3. Find the path to the green goal.
  4. When you reach it you level up, and the next maze will be bigger.
  5. Your time and moves are tracked: try to beat your record.

Strategy: the right-hand rule

The classic trick to solve any maze without a map is the so-called "right-hand rule": imagine you keep your hand pressed against the wall on your right and never let go. Following it without exception means you eventually explore the whole maze and, sooner or later, reach the exit. It's not the shortest path, but it guarantees you'll never get stuck going in circles in the same spot.

In larger mazes, combine this with your eyes: before moving, take a quick look at the general direction of the goal and prioritize turns that bring you closer to it whenever you have more than one option available.

Quick tips

With this method, you'll find the exit of any maze, no matter how big, without relying on luck.

🏆 Time ranking

The Maze has its own global ranking: your best time completing the levels is saved. Go to Ranking, the 🕹️ 1 Player tab, choose "Maze" from the dropdown, and compare your score with other players, synced to your account. For your result to count you need a free account on MundoSudoku (just a username and password, no email required): you can play without one, but without logging in your score won't be saved to the ranking.
