🎲 How to play Parcheesi

Parcheesi (known in Spain and Latin America as "parchís," and closely related to Ludo) is probably one of the best-loved board games in the Spanish-speaking world: simple, family-friendly, and with that perfect mix of luck and strategy that hooks kids and adults alike. Behind rolling the die and moving pieces there are more decisions than it seems. Here are the complete rules and tips to win more often.
What is Parcheesi?
Parcheesi is played on a cross-shaped board. Each player has 4 pieces of one color that start in their home base. The goal is to take each piece all the way around the board and get them all to the center goal before your opponent.
Rules and how to play, step by step
- Taking turns, players roll a die and move a piece that many spaces.
- To bring a piece out of home onto the track you need to roll a 5.
- If your piece lands on a space occupied by an opponent's piece (and it's not a safe spot), you capture it and it goes back home.
- When you roll a 6, when you capture, or when you get a piece into the goal, you roll again.
- To enter the goal you need the exact number. Whoever gets all 4 pieces in first wins.
Safe spots and captures
The safe spots (marked on the board) protect your pieces: you can't be captured there. Using them well is key to advancing without risk. Capturing an opponent's piece, on the other hand, is a double reward: you send it back to start and you also roll again. Knowing when to risk a capture and when to take refuge on a safe spot is the essence of Parcheesi.
Strategy to win at Parcheesi
- Spread your pieces around the board instead of advancing just one: you have more options on every roll.
- Keep pieces on safe spots when your opponent is nearby and threatening a capture.
- Make the most of extra turns (6, capture, goal) to chain moves together.
- Watch out for any of your pieces left alone and exposed right in front of an opponent's.
- Keep some margin to enter the goal with the exact number instead of getting stuck at the door.
Play online with 2 players
You can play Parcheesi against another person in several ways: press "🌐 Online" and create a room to share a 4-letter code with whoever you want to challenge, use "🔍 Find opponent" to have the system instantly match you with another available player, or add a friend by their username from the 👥 Friends panel (while signed in) and press "Challenge" next to their name to invite them directly to a match. You can also both play on the same device by pressing "👥 2 players": you take turns, as Player 1 and Player 2.
Parcheesi online for 4 players
For the full classic Parcheesi experience, try the 4-player online mode: you join a room and the system matches you with other people. If four players don't gather, the missing seats are filled with bots and the game starts anyway, so you never sit waiting. This mode uses the full rules: you leave home with a 5, capturing an opponent's piece lets you count 20, getting a piece home lets you count 10, a 6 means you roll again (but watch out for three sixes!), and two pieces of the same colour form a barrier. While signed in, your captures, pieces home and wins earn points in the Online Rooms ranking.
🏆 Wins ranking
All your online Parcheesi matches are recorded on your account: every win (and every loss) adds to your history. Go to Ranking, the 🎮 2 Players tab, choose "Parcheesi" from the dropdown, and check your position against other players, synced across all your devices. For your result to count you need a free account on MundoSudoku (just a username and password, no email required): you can play without one, but without signing in your score isn't saved to the ranking.
